There are a number of exciting things to do in Malaga.  From historical sites to cultural attractions, I enclose a list of attractions you should not miss:

Plaza de la

Constitucion

The plaza de la Constitución (Constitution Square) has been the hub of Malaga’s life from the time of the reconquest, when it was known as Four Street Square (Plaza de las Cuatro Calles). It was also known as Plaza Mayor (Main Square) until it was renamed in 1812 as Plaza de la Constitucion.  A 1 minute walk from the apartment

Calle Larios was opened officially to the public on 27 August 1891 and was designed by engineer José María Sancha and later modified by Manuel Rivera.  Besides being a major shopping street, one of the most important in Spain, together with Plaza Constitución, it is an urban space where the city’s most important events are held.  A 1 minute walk from the apartment

Museums

Museums

Malaga has many museums to explore and it is without question their most famous one commemorates Pablo Picasso who was born in Malaga.  A few museums to visit are as follows:

 

  • Casa Natal de Picasso, birthplace of Picasso, 7 minute walk from the apartment

  • Museo Carmen Thyssen, 2 minute walk from the apartment

Castillo de

Gibralfaro

Standing on the Mount Gibralfaro hilltop above the Alcazaba, the Castillo de Gibralfaro is a medieval Moorish fortress. Abd-al-Rahman III, the Caliph of Cordoba, built the castle in the 10th century on the site of a Phoenician lighthouse. The name is derived from the word “gebel-faro” (Arabic and Greek words that mean “rock of the lighthouse”).  A 6 minute walk from the apartment

Stronghold of the Moorish kings, this ancient Moorish castle was built in the ninth century (and rebuilt in the 11th century) on the ruins of a Roman bastion.  A 6 minute walk from the apartment

Teatro Romano –

Ampitheatre

Dating from the time of Augustus (1st century AD), it was rediscovered in 1951 by workers building the foundations for a new Casa de Cultura. Today the theatre sits fully exposed beneath the walls of the Alcazaba.  A 6 minute walk from the apartment

Teatro Cervantes

Teatro Cervantes

The Teatro Cervantes, a late 19th-century building, was last renovated and inaugurated in 1987, is part of the city’s artistic heritage. Located in the historic centre, it is the main venue for shows, with a capacity for 1,100 spectators.  A 6 minute walk from the apartment

Paseo del Parque

– Gardens

The park is located at the base of Calle Marques de Larios.  It is made up of three walkways, each 800 metres long and ten metres wide; one is on the north side and the other two are to the south of the 25 metre-wide central thoroughfare for vehicles, a continuation of the Alameda Principal.  The park covers an area of 30,000 square metres if we count the rose garden surrounded by orange and cypress trees next to the City Council building and the gardens called Jardines de Puerta Oscura.  A 7 minute walk from the apartment

It was designed in the mid-19th century when the Muslim walls to the south were demolished, which opened the city to the sea. Today, it is also the first sight that visitors from cruise ships see when they leave the Port of Málaga.  The marina located in front of the main entrance of the Port and the Palmeral de las Sorpresas, with the Alameda Principal to one side and the Parque de Málaga on the other, bounded on the north by Calle Marques de Larios.  A 7 minute walk from the apartment
